The Prime Minister David Cameron, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg ,and Health Secretary Andrew Lansley invited Salford Health Matters Chief Executive, Neil Turton, to join representatives from the voluntary sector to share their views as part the listening exercise on NHS modernisation.
The event was hosted at Number 10 as a breakfast roundtable on Wedesnday 13th April.
Neil said 'This was a fantasitc opportunity to showcase Salford as a leader in the delivery of health services by social enterprise. I was able to share our experience and put forward our views on the new Health Bill - such as involving nurses and patients, as well as GPs, in commissioning; and the important role that social enterprise and the voluntary sector play in the delivery of our health service.'
Salford health Matters is a social enterprise - we run GP practices, but we put money back into patient care, for example through social prescribing and physiotherapy.
We are an independent social enterprise but we are balso very much part of the NHS - free at the point of need, underpinned by core NHS values of dignity and respect for patients.
