Smoking cessation with a difference!

STAFF from a Salford GPs practice staged a clinic with a difference – after setting up ‘shop’ in a local pub!

Advanced Practitioner Kate Jones and her colleagues from Salford Health Matters held a Smoking Cessation at The Hope pub on Eccles Old Road in Salford as part of national ‘No Smoking Day’.

Customers at the pub were able to take advantage of free carbon monoxide and blood pressure tests, and Kate and her team also gave smokers advice on how to ‘kick the habit’.

Rose Holliday, a self-confessed smoker from Swinton, said: “I used to be a landlady myself and I think it’s a great idea to stage something like this in a pub where people are far more relaxed.”

Neil Turton, chief executive of Salford Health Matters, said: “The number of people suffering from smoking related illnesses in Salford is significantly higher than the national average. Our staff hold regular clinics on quitting smoking but this was the first time we have staged something like this in a pub. We saw it as a good way of engaging with the local community in a relaxed and informal environment.”
